Overview and Description
Participants will learn how to analyze the risks of a significant project using the latest risk analytic concepts. The course is designed for staff with capital project decision responsibility, authority, or influence, as well as those who are involved in business case preparation. The course is ideal for experienced managers, directors, and corporate officers who regularly develop and present budgets, business plans, and recommendations. Financial staff, project managers, analysts, and consultants would also benefit.
Project Risk Assessment topics include:
- Review of the structure of the NPV Model of project economics
- Limitations of the NPV model relating to risk
- Methods of Risk Analysis for use with the NPV model
- Sensitivity analysis
- Adjusting the discount rate
- Scenario modeling
- Monte Carlo Simulation — illustrated using @RISK software by Palisade
- Decision Tree Analysis — illustrated using Precision Tree software by Palisade
- Real Option Valuation
The Project Risk Assessment course uses a mix of lectures, illustrations, and group discussions revolving around a complex oil sands project. The course is interactive and delivered through face-to-face instruction. The course facilitator is a noted energy industry specialist. Please note that basic financial knowledge and understanding of project economics is required for this course. Some familiarity with statistics will be beneficial.
