Overview and Description

The one-day Financial Analysis course builds on the Financial Literacy course and provides participants with a robust tool-kit which can be used to evaluate the financial performance of any company using its financial statements. Traditional ratio analysis is supplemented with more modern techniques including bankruptcy ratios (Z score), cash conversion period cycle, sustainable growth rate, and some of the financial metrics used in capital markets to value firms. In addition, the course discusses and fully explains present value arithmetic used to conduct financial valuation of alternative cash flow patterns. This will allow participants to evaluate the financial desirability of debt or equity instruments.

Topic coverage includes the following financial assessment tools:

  • Z score
  • Sustainable growth rate
  • Cash conversion period
  • The link between financial profitability metrics (such as price earnings ratio) and equity valuation
  • Discounted Cash Flow Analysis
  • Opportunity cost
  • The time value of money
  • Discounting and compounding of various cash flow patterns

The instructor emphasizes individual and group exercises to apply concepts immediately after their presentation.

At the end of the day, participants will be able to conduct in-depth financial analyses and determine the present value of bonds, mortgages and equity stocks.
